Highlife musician, Kofi Kinaata, received high praise from the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during his speech at the General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association.

The Asantehene referenced Kinaata’s hit song ‘Susuka’, specifically the phrase ‘Obi nya wayɛ’, meaning “someone wishes they were like you”, to emphasise the importance of appreciating Ghana’s achievements despite its challenges.

Otumfuo noted that while Ghana faces difficulties, many other countries admire and aspire to be like Ghana, encouraging citizens to reflect on the insightful lyrics of musicians like Kofi Kinaata.

“Sometimes, listen to the wisdom of our musicians and reflect on a piece like Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Obi nya wayɛ,’ he said, which was met with applause from the audience.

Kofi Kinaata, elated by this recognition, shared the moment on social media with the caption, “Auntie Ama eeiii… I have made it!! #KofiOOKofi.”

Fellow musicians and fans joined in celebrating the notable acknowledgement from the Asantehene.

This is not the first time the talented musician has been recognised by prominent figures.

Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo has previously declared Kofi Kinaata as her favourite musician, praising his thoughtful and reflective songwriting.
