The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, with 8,295 candidates having their results cancelled over examination irregularities.
A total of 512,862 candidates from 1,022 schools entered the examination, comprising 225,270 males and 287,592 females.
The figure represents an 11.07 per cent increase over the 461,736 candidates who entered in 2025. WAEC said 5,049 candidates, representing 0.98 per cent, were absent.
The Council said the results have been hosted online and login details made available to heads of schools. Candidates can also access their results via the WAEC website.
8,295 Results Cancelled
According to WAEC, the 42nd Meeting of the Ghana Examinations Committee held on Friday, August 7, 2026, approved the cancellation of subject results of 7,434 candidates for bringing foreign materials including prepared notes, textbooks and printed material into examination halls.
The entire results of 861 candidates were also cancelled for possessing mobile phones in the examination halls.
In addition, subject results of 957 candidates have been withheld, while entire results of 270 candidates have also been withheld over various suspected offences.
WAEC said subject results of candidates from 169 schools have been withheld over alleged collusion.
The cases are under investigation and the results will either be released or cancelled depending on the outcome.
Investigations are expected to be completed by October 30, 2026.
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been directed to access the Council’s irregularity and investigations platform for reasons and next steps.
Social Studies Tops Core Subjects
Social Studies recorded the strongest performance among the four core subjects, with 78.04 per cent of candidates obtaining A1 to C6.
The figure is a sharp improvement from 55.82 per cent in 2025, 71.53 per cent in 2024 and 76.76 per cent in 2023.
Mathematics (Core) also recovered from a sharp decline in 2025, increasing from 48.73 per cent to 60.75 per cent in 2026. The 2026 figure is below the 62.23 per cent recorded in 2023.
Integrated Science improved from 57.74 per cent in 2025 to 62.08 per cent in 2026.English Language, however, recorded a decline, falling from 69.00 per cent in 2025 to 62.40 per cent in 2026. WAEC said English was the only core subject to record a progressive decline from 2023 to 2026.
WAEC has cautioned candidates and the public against fraudsters who claim they can upgrade results for a fee.
The Council said its results are secured and can be authenticated through its results verification system and QR code verification.
It urged stakeholders to disregard such claims.
