The Embassy of the State of Palestine in Ghana has donated over 200 bags of rice to families in selected communities as part of efforts to support them during the festive season.
Presenting the items, the Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, Abdulfattah Ahmed Khalil Alsatarri, who expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana for its longstanding solidarity with the Palestinian people, said the gesture is aimed at extending support to Ghanaians, especially the less privileged.
He also highlighted Ghana’s reputation for upholding human rights, peace, and democratic values, recounting the cordial relationship that has existed between the two countries over the years.
“It is my duty and I do it from my heart. Having spent eleven years in Ghana, I consider myself a Ghanaian too, and I must support others in whatever way I can.
“I want to thank Ghana for the support, and the Palestinian community who always stand with us during these times,” he said.
The Ambassador stated that despite the difficult circumstances facing Palestinians due to atrocities being meted out by Israel, citing the thousands of lives which have been lost, it was important that his outfit extend a hand to some Ghanaians as well.
The Ambassador, whose tenure in Ghana ends at the end of this month, expressed confidence that his successor would continue the tradition of supporting Ghanaian communities.
He further described Ghanaians as peaceful, loving, and supportive, recounting memorable interactions with past and present governments, as well as members of the diplomatic community who have consistently called for an end to Israel’s occupation of Gaza.
Families and individuals from 37, Nima, Maamobi, and surrounding communities who benefitted from the donation expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ambassador for the gesture, as they prepare for the festive season.
