Parliament Reorganises Public Affairs Dept

Guests from Parliament and their DAILY GUIDE and DGN hosts

A delegation from the Media Relations Department of Parliament as part of the reorganisation of the Public Affairs Department yesterday paid a visit to the DAILY GUIDE, a subsidiary of Western Publications Limited which also operates GUIDE RADIO and DGN TV.

The delegation, led by the Director of Media Relations of Parliament, David Sebastian Damoah, said the visit is aimed at familiarising as well as exploring areas of partnership that would help enhance the relationship between the two for mutual benefit.

He expressed hope that the visit will also offer an opportunity for both organisations to learn from each other on projects and initiatives which will go a long way to benefit the two.

He said the reorganisation of Parliament which has three directorates namely Broadcasting Directorate, Public Engagement and Media Relations Directorate as part of its mandate would work to share the vision  of  Parliament, and forge further collaboration with the media who have over the years served as the mouthpiece of disseminating information to the public.

He also stated that his outfit as part of the process of its reorganisation and strengthening the relationship between Parliament and media organisations has rolled out a series of programmes such as editors forum, speakers forum, and programmes to enhance the capacity of reporters among others in the next session of  Parliament from Tuesday,  October 31, 2023.

He said, “This will help us to solicit input from the media houses, for the leaders to meet and interact with the editors and parliamentary reporters, get ideas to improve our work, get feedback from the editors and reporters on issues on parliamentary procedures among others.”

He added that, to help enhance and strengthen such collaboration, there were plans to make Parliament more accessible to the public, especially reporters, to enable them gain access to some of the committee meetings which were not part of the standing orders in the last Parliament.

Sebastian Damoah further said the Parliament of Ghana which has been touted as one of the best, especially for consolidating democracy in the sub-region, in his view could not have achieved that feat without credible key stakeholders like the DAILY GUIDE.

He, therefore, commended Western Publications for consistently providing the public with unblemished reports on parliamentary proceedings over the years. Chief News Editor of DAILY GUIDE, A.R. Gomda, thanked the delegation for the confidence reposed in the organisation, while describing the visit as historic.

He also assured the delegation of Western Publications Group’s readiness to collaborate  and work together to achieve the overarching objective of the Media Relations Directorate of Parliament, as it continuously work towards adequately informing and educating  the  public  on parliamentary  proceedings.
