Parliamentary Affairs Ministry Pledges Support For Ghana’s Democracy

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has indicated that it is well positioned to support Ghana’s democratic transformation.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kye-Mensah Bonsu, made this known while addressing journalists at the Ministry of Information Meet the Press Series in Accra, on Wednesday, October 2, 2019.

He stated that the Ministry sought to achieve its goal of supporting democracy in Ghana by among other things, aiding the deepening of democratic governance.

The Minister noted that the Ministry aims to achieve its goal by assisting the enhancement of political and administrative decentralization
through the harmonization of relationship between MPs and MMDCEs; ensuring the harmonization of relationship between Parliament and the
Executive.

Again, he observed the Ministry shall work towards the demystification of the perception of executive dominance.

He said the Ministry would promote general consensus around the fundamental issues of national development and as well encouraging participation of Civil Society Organizations in the shaping of public polices in order to secure for ourselves and posterity the blessings of liberty, equality of opportunity and prosperity as captured by the Preamble of the 1992 Republican Constitution.

Touching on what the Ministry has done so far, he noted that the Ministry has had engagements and dialogues with MPs and MMDCEs –Southern Sector, Middle
Belt and Northern belt and with core and expanded leadership of Parliament.

He stated that there has also been engagements with Civil Society Organizations and Media, as well as stakeholders’ engagement on monetization of politics in Ghana.
