Members of Patriotic Achievers, a group aligned to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), have distributed over 2,000 face masks to traders in the Greater Accra Region to help prevent further spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

The group made the distribution at the Odorkor and Ofankor markets, where market women in particular and other patrons were given masks for free.

Taofik Mohammed, acting Chairman of the group, told DAILY GUIDE that due to the strict observance of social distancing, a few members of the group met for the distribution exercise.

He said they were determined to support the markets to adhere strictly to preventive measures outlined by the health authorities through the President to ensure the curtailment of the spread of the disease.

“There are still a lot of Ghanaians who don’t believe that the disease is in Ghana and we want to use the distribution of face masks to create the awareness that the disease is real and is here with us,” he stressed.

“All that we can do in our small ways is to observe all the safety protocols by wearing our face masks, washing our hands regularly and sanitizing our hands regularly as well with alcohol-based hand sanitizers,” he added.

On their part, the market women and traders appreciated the gesture of the Patriotic Achievers and urged them to intensify their education on Covid-19.
