‘Pay Players Very Well’

Ex-President J.A Kufuor

Former Asante Kotoko Board Chairman, John Agyekum Kufuor, has suggested to club administrators to pay locally based players well.

The former president believes better remuneration for players has the huge potential to bring the best out of them on the local front.

Notwithstanding player meagre salaries in the country, coupled with delays, it has emerged that some clubs are considering pay cut amid the coronavirus pandemic; a decision the players vehemently opposed.

Reports indicate that some Ghana Premier League players pocket as low as GH¢200 per month.

“We should take good care of our players and pay them very well. We need to ensure our players because football always goes with injuries. If we don’t insure the players and injuries sets in, it will go a long way to affect the player,” he told Manhyia Palace-based Opemsour FM.

He believes that the country will get players best shot if they are paid well and promptly.

“Elsewhere, football is business. Players earn more than doctors and lawyers. Here, footballers are not even receiving GH¢1, 000 a month. How can they play their heart out and make a living? We need to look after our footballers well,” he added.
