Plot To ‘Kill’ MP Exposed, Cutlass, Knives, Cheque Found

The suspects

There is tension at Agona Swedru in the Central Region over claims that opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) elements in the Agona West Constituency allegedly plotted to assassinate the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate and incumbent MP Cynthia Mamle Morrison, who doubles as the Minister for Gender & Children.

Matters came to a head when the police arrested on Saturday night four men who the NDC candidate, Paul Ofori Amoah, has since claimed are his friends.

Key Arrest

It all started when the Swedru Divisional Police patrol team arrested four men, some heavily built, at a hotel over the alleged plot.

The suspects were named by the police as Saddick Abubakar, Gordon Kunya, Isaac Addea and Dauda Fatua.

According to the police at 10:15 pm on Saturday, “Based on intelligence gathered that some heavily build men (machomen) whose movement looks suspicious were lodging in a Hotel at Swedru, the team proceeded to the hotel and met the suspect lodging in rooms 8:00 and 9:00.”

The report said, “Their rooms were searched and a knife was found on Dauda Fatau, a cutlass was also found in room 8, being occupied by Isaac Addea and Fatau Dauda. A search was also conducted in room 9, occupied by Gordon Kunya and Saddick Abubakar, and a lighter and two packets of Razzler were also found in the room.”

The police also said that “two bank opened cheque in the sum of GH¢5,000 each were also found on Dauda Fatau and Gordon Kunya. Meanwhile, suspects detained and exhibits retained for further action.”

Unconfirmed sources claimed that a fifth suspect absconded upon seeing the police.

This comes barely a week after the gruesome murder of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman, Ekow Kwansah Hayford.

Hotel Booking

DAILY GUIDE sources claimed that the hotel accommodation was booked in the name of the NDC candidate for the suspects.

There were also claims that the NDC MP was arrested and granted self-enquiry bail but he has denied that he was arrested but admitted he was with the suspects at Swedru on Saturday.

Video Post

He posted a video on social media saying, “I was with my friends yesterday and I came home to sleep at about 11:00pm. I then got a call that they have been arrested so I went to the division (Divisional Police Command in Swedru) to see them.”

NPP Accused

He then turned his attention on the NPP, saying they were behind those peddling the falsehoods and said the ruling party fears that they would lose the seat.

“No serious-minded person will take this seriously. I mean there is nothing about it and there is nothing like Paul wanting to kill somebody or wanting to kill the MP.”

“We are focused, our eyes is fixed on the prize, as we wanting to win this election and they know very well that we are going to win. All these antics and the rest will not make anything. It doesn’t mean anything to me.”

The NDC candidate added, “They say they have arrested Agona West NDC parliamentary candidate and four others for plotting to kill the MP. The MP is going to lose the election so why would I plot to kill her?”

“My brothers from the other party must get serious.

I was surprised to see their leaders going up and down just to wanting to create a scene. There are issues we should talk about. Those affecting our daily lives here in Agona West. That is what we should talk about. You go and create your issues and make noise about it. That is a shame!” he said.
