Police In Secret Burial Scandal

There is tension in Seikwa in the Bono Region following allegation that a suspect died in police custody.

Some officers in Seikwa Police Station reportedly arrested a suspect, called Abu Bukan Bahala, 48, allegedly beat him to death and buried him secretly without informing his family.

However, when the family got to know about the incident, the police quickly exhumed the body and deposited it at the morgue as if nothing happened.

A brother of the deceased, Abdulai Raman, told DAILY GUIDE that it was after the police realised that their nefarious action had been found out by the family that they went and exhumed the body from the Seikwa Cemetery and deposited the body at a private mortuary at Ayakumase Mentukwa in the Sunyani West District.

The victim was accused of mistakenly breaking the rear screen of a vehicle belonging to the manager of the Nafana Rural Bank at Seikwa and so he was arrested and sent to the police station in Seikwa.

According to the brother of the deceased, an eyewitness who saw the police action informed the family members, and the family later went to the police at Seikwa to seek for the whereabouts of Bahala.

An officer at the station, who only identified himself as William, failed to explain to the family the whereabouts of the suspect, with the excuse that his boss was not around.

All efforts by the family to let the police provide them with information about the whereabouts of their brother proved futile.

When the policemen realised that their action has been found out by Bahala’s family, they quickly went to the cemetery and exhumed the body where they were caught on camera.

The Berekum District Police Commander, ASP Andrews Okunininige, confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE but explained that the case has been transferred to the Bono Regional Police Command for further investigations.

It later turned out that the Bono Regional Police Command has interdicted three police officers for their involvement in the case.

Their names were given as Inspector Eric Aforo, who is the Seikwa Police Station officer, General Corporal William Akussumg and General Constable Ebenezer Akuffo.
