Police, Military Refute Claims Of Using Landguards

The Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have both issued statements refuting claims that they use landguards to reclaim and protect their lands.

These statements come in response to allegations made by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Prof Patrick Agbesinyaie, during a Parliamentary Committee meeting on July 10, 2023.

The Ghana Police Service, in a press release, categorically denied the claims and stated that they were false and unfounded.

They emphasized that they have not engaged the services of landguards to reclaim or protect their lands.”

In fact, the “Police Service has intensified its anti-landguard operations in communities affected by their activities. Their renewed effort will continue until those involved in such illegal activities are brought to justice.”

The Police Service assured the public that they remain committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring public safety and security with the support of the people of Ghana.

In a separate statement, the Ghana Armed Forces expressed dismay at the news story alleging their use of landguards to reclaim encroached lands.

They dismissed the allegations as false and emphasized that they should be treated with contempt. GAF stated that it is regrettable that such news reports originated from unsubstantiated allegations made by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. They urge the media and the public to contact the Department of Public Relations to clarify such matters before publishing them.

The Ghana Armed Forces emphasized their focus on protecting the country’s frontiers against the spread of violent extremism from the Sahel Region.

Both organizations offered reassurances of their commitment to peace, security, and the socio-economic development of Ghana. They emphasized their dedication to upholding the rule of law and urged the public to ignore the false claims made against them.
