Police Officer Interdicted For ‘Defiling’ Daughter

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has interdicted a Police Inspector stationed at Mamponteng District in the Ashanti Region over allegations of defilement involving his 14-year-old biological daughter.

The officer, identified as Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, is currently under investigation by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Agona District following a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, Charlotte Samaa.

According to a statement issued by the Regional Police Command, the complaint was filed on November 4, 2025, by Ms. Samaa, a resident of Koforidua in the Eastern Region, on behalf of her daughter, whose identity has been withheld.

The statement explained that the complainant accused the police officer of sexually abusing the teenager.

Following the report, the victim was referred to a government health facility for medical examination to support ongoing investigations.

The statement, signed by ASP Emmanuel Agbodzi, Staff Officer and Acting Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ashanti North Regional Police Command, disclosed that Inspector Afriyie reported himself to the Agona DOVVSU office on February 20, 2026, where he was arrested and questioned.

Police said a cautioned statement was taken from the suspect, who denied the allegations leveled against him.

He was subsequently granted enquiry bail and has been directed to report periodically to assist with investigations.

“The Inspector is currently being interdicted to pave way for further investigation,” the statement noted.

The Police Command assured the public of its commitment to ensuring a thorough and transparent investigation into the matter.

It further indicated that additional updates would be communicated as investigations progress.
