Politics Of Mendacity (2)

 John Jinapor

The naysayers have resorted to sloganeering and wishful thinking going into the December 7, 2024 general election.

Slogans such as “dumsor is back” and “times are hard” are regularly on the “lips” of the NDC, its leaders and collaborators in the media, academia and civil society to the extent that less than a year to the polls Ghanaians can hardly point to one social intervention policy that John Mahama intends to introduce to rescue the country from his so-called hardships.

With the Akufo-Addo government’s resolve to save lives at the expense of the economy during the COVID-19 era, the present situation of the country cannot be blamed on mismanagement as against what happened post 2013 to 2016, compelling the then government to run to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

We expect the political parties that want to contest the December elections, including those in mask and the Butterfly Movement, to move away from the rhetoric and show us what they can do for the people.

As for John Jinapor, we want to tell him that his wishful thinking for dumsor would not happen if that is what the NDC wants to latch on to win power. Former President John Mahama, is it true some of your party people are unleashing violence in Tamale?

Do you realise that now that there is no opponent to attack, your people are engaged in internal violence to justify your claim that the NDC is an expert in unleashing violence?

While on NDC violence and deceit, we need to draw the attention of the NPP to the “verbal diarrhoea” that seems to have afflicted Kennedy Ohene Agyapong. His strategy can only place him on a self destruction path. Politicians must behave like sportsmen and women and accept defeat in good faith. We hear John Mahama says he would not go to the Supreme Court again after the elections. Good riddance as his party would only waste everybody’s time as they did in 2021.

Elections are won at the polling stations hence the NDC is reminded that slogans and misinformation would not resonate on the electorate on December 7, 2024.

Then another character is John Jinapor, who was virtually jubilating last week when the country experienced power challenges.

He was quick to announce that dumsor has returned and calling on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to come out with a load shedding timetable. Serving on the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament and one-time deputy minister under Mahama and a de facto Power Minister, some Ghanaians believed him.

But was he speaking the truth or deceiving the public just for political reasons; that like Mahama, President Akufo-Addo has brought dumsor?

Days after that, it has become clear that dumsor is not in sight, but that it was a temporary challenge. John Jinapor finds it difficult to swallow humble pie.

We have time and again drawn the attention of Ghanaians to the true persona of NDC leaders, warning Ghanaians to be wary of them. These people are prepared to build bridges over non- existent rivers. They deceived Ghanaians in 2008 to secure power and harsh consequences followed.

To the NDC, “review” has become an euphemism for lack of clear cut policy direction going into the 2024 elections.

Some of the leading lights of the NDC are the serpents under the grass who can cause havoc if we are not vigilant.

We plead with the electorate to “shine” their eyes to the lies of the NDC, lest we suffer from these bunch of incompetent people who want to rise to power through lies, propaganda and misinformation.

This is where the NPP machinery must be at work 24/7 to expose the Goebbelsian liars to the good people of Ghana. Election 2024 will be fought and won with facts, achievements and data and not NDC propaganda aided by some journalists, civil society, academia and clergy. The NPP supporters must be bold to tell the success story of the Akufo-Addo government because pretty soon our economic challenges would be a thing of the past.

The naysayers have started gnashing their teeth about the dramatic fall in inflation to 23.2% by close of December last year. More pain awaits the naysayers and they better align to avoid more excruciating defeat in the coming months.
