Poor Attendance At Farmers’ Day Celebrations In CR

Kwamena Duncan, Central Regional Minister

THIS YEAR’S Farmers’ Day celebrations in the Central Region recorded a very poor attendance as compared to previous years.

Aside from the poor attendance, general information gathered by DAILY GUIDE from the various areas the celebration was held in the region indicated that most government officials, especially metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) were late for the functions.

The event which was scheduled to start at 9:30am actually started around 11:30am, with the guest speaker arriving at 12:47pm.

This year’s edition appeared to have lost touch with the people especially the farmers.

The MMDCEs in the region, according to DAILY GUIDE report, don’t seem to value time and are always fond of attending public functions late. And residents have complained about this issue.

Also, there were complaints over the awards packages such as bicycles and machetes presented to the winners. To some, the packages were uninspiring.

In all, 10 hardworking farmers and fishermen were honoured with one Kwesi Korang emerging as the new AAK district 2018 Best Farmer. He took home assorted farm implements, including a motor bicycle.

Nana Okakaben Idun Andoh X, Omanhene of Kwamankese Traditional Area, who steered the affairs of the function, asked the people to be time conscious and change their mindset in order to pave way for development.

Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were Nana Munko Eku VIII, the Odikro of Abura Ansefena, and his wife.
