Traders at Darkuman Junction and its enclave have expressed their deepest concern about the poor drainage system in the area.
Darkuman Junction is a district in the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and a town in the Greater Accra Region. It is a busy town where many shops are located. Besides, most drivers use the route at the area to convey passengers to kaneshie, Accra and other destinations.
The issue of poor drainage system has been in existence in the area for about two years now and nothing has been done about it.
A trader said: “Several media houses have come around to interview us but nothing has been done to solve the problem for us; we are really suffering in terms of health and business”.
The main gutter from Odorkor to first light is choked. As a result, the road has become flooded. Also, the gutters beside the MMTU Police Station and Tecno Office are choked causing bad smell all over.
The current situation is causing harm to residents and passengers. Passengers find it difficult to utilize public transport from the bus stop. The road is almost always flooded regardless of seasons.
“Business is not going on well as compared to years back. Customers tend to complain to us that because of the water stuck on the road and the bad smell around the area, they can’t buy food from us rendering us helpless. The situation has compelled us to reduce the quantity of food we sell to avoid leftover”, another trader disclosed.
Residents of Darkuman are pleading and entreating government and other organizational bodies to intervene immediately, for their health and finance are at stake.
