President Akufo-Addo inspecting a road project in Salaga
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that the road infrastructure his government has embarked upon is real and not the kind of imaginary ones existing only in NDC’s green book.
He recalled how his predecessor John Mahama, a native of the newly created Savannah Region, vilified him when he complained that he could not see the ‘unprecedented’ roads the then NDC government claimed to have constructed.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the Kpembewura Babanye Haruna Bismark Deri at his palace during his official tour of the Savannah Region, the President said, “Your son in 2016 said he was responsible for the unprecedented infrastructure and when I said I didn’t see the roads, he said I was asleep at the back of my car; but now I know everybody in the country knows who was telling the truth.”
The President assured the people of Salaga and the Savannah Region that there would be massive infrastructural development in the region and the famous town would have its share of the national cake.
The Salaga-Makango road would be completed and would be visible for people to see it, he told his hosts in Salaga.
The Roads Minister, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, who was with the President, said at the Kpembewura’s palace that the government was working on 28 road projects in the Savannah Region alone.
According to him, the 57-km Tamale-Salaga road project handled by E&P Limited, a company owned by the brother of former President Mahama, which he had abandoned, had been a worrying issue for government and the people of Salaga.
On Friday, February 7, 2020, government will meet with management of E&P Limited to find a lasting solution to the problem regarding the abandonment of the road.
“The road is of importance to the government and I am arranging a meeting with the management of E&P to bring them back to work but if we are unable to reach an agreement we will terminate the contract and re-award it,” he said.
The Kpembewura thanked the President for his pro-poor policies which had impacted his people positively.
“For your work done so far we have no doubt in your ability and determination to transform this country,” he said as he continued with an expression of gratitude to the President for resolving the water crisis in the Salaga area through the Salaga Water Expansion Project.
The Kpembewura appealed to the President to ensure that the Tamale to Makango road was completed on schedule to facilitate movement of people and goods from the region to the south or vice versa.
