President Akufo-Addo has charged winners of this year’s ‘Presidential Pitch’ competition to endeavour to create job opportunities for others to benefit. This was when he presented cheques to winners of the competition at the Jubilee House on Tuesday.
In congratulating them, President Akufo-Addo said, “I think the minister’s call that you should be instruments for job creation is at the heart of it, because that is what at end of the day, entrepreneurial ability should lead to – setting up new businesses, thinking of new ways of dealing with issues that allow other people also to be brought into the world of employment and business.”
“I want to congratulate you once again very fervently on what I saw and what you did,” he said.
In view of the fact that winners of last year’s edition of the competition have managed to create not less than 207 jobs, the President could not but charged all 10 winners of this year’s award to emphasise job creation, insisting that “every generation should advance on the previous.”
He expressed the hope that this year round they would do even better than their predecessors, saying “we are expecting a lot from you not just next year, but in the years down the road because already you’ve shown the talents, the ability, the creativity and that’s how we are going to build our country…”
On behalf of all the winners, the ultimate winner of the competition, Emily Otoo Quayson, expressed deep-seated appreciation to the President for the honour done them by way of provision of seed capital for their businesses.
“I would like to fully assure you that we will utilize the funds fully to employ other people and contribute to the development of our country,” she stressed.
