Prudential Bank has donated GH¢20,000 to support the Ghana National Fire Service’s (GNFS) newly launched Health and Safety Fund, during this year’s commemoration of International Firefighters’ Day in Accra.

The Health and Safety Fund is intended to support firefighters who sustain severe injuries in the line of duty and to cater for the education of children of firefighters who lose their lives while serving the nation. Prudential Bank is the first financial institution to donate to the fund.

Making the donation during an appeal for funds at the event, Charles Ofori, Head of Personal Banking at Prudential Bank, stated that the Bank acknowledges and honours the bravery of GNFS personnel, and the donation was a symbol of appreciation for their unwavering commitment to duty.

“As a bank that prides itself on being truly dependable, we recognize the immense sacrifices firefighters make in the line of duty. This donation is our way of acknowledging that service. We believe in aligning with causes that uplift lives and strengthen communities. Giving back is not just a commitment—it is a responsibility. To the Fire Service team, we say thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and service,” he said.

DCFO Mark Brako Appiah, Director of Finance at GNFS, received the donation on behalf of the Service and thanked the Bank for the gesture, noting that it would go a long way in supporting the initiative.

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, officially launched the Health and Safety Fund, describing it as a significant step toward improving the welfare of firefighters and their families.

The event also featured the presentation of awards to firefighters who have distinguished themselves in service.
