The Kwahu East District Assembly in the Eastern Region has presented some tools and equipment to people with disabilities (PWDs) in the district to enhance their economic well-being.
The items presented included the following: deep freezers, sewing machines, popcorn machines, hair dryers, knitting machines, electronic sewing machines, water-pumping machines, cocoa spraying machines, fufu pounding machines and wheel chairs. The items were donated as part of efforts to support PWDs to embark on small-scale ventures.
Speaking at a short ceremony at Abetifi, Isaac Agyapong, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kwahu East District Assembly, said the objective of the government is to empower PWDs to establish their own businesses for a sustained income generation.Â
This, he said, would ensure prudent use of the PWDs component of the DACF. It would also prevent them from going to the streets to beg for alms.
Mr. Agyapong said the assembly had earlier presented cheques to 56 PWDs to support them with their education and medical expenses.
Besides, he presented 300 pieces of face masks to the PWDs to help curb the spread of Covid-19.
