Rainstorm Renders Scores Homeless

A HEAVY rainstorm which swept through Atwima Aburaso in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region Sunday evening has rendered hundreds of residents homeless.

The torrential rains ripped off the roofs of about 20 houses and destroyed many properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

Many container structures and sign posts were also moved out of their places by the rainstorm which lasted for about 45 minutes.

No casualty was recorded, but most of the displaced victims were forced to perch with their friends and relations.

The Assemly Member for Aburaso-Adwaase Electoral Area, Emmanuel Nyanteng, who was at the affected area to inspect the extent of damage, empathised with the affected residents.

He expressed shock at the level of destruction caused by the rainstorm.

Mr. Nyanteng, alias Abedi, said soon after arriving at the area, he called on the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the district to come to the aid of the distressed community.

“As the Assembly Member for this Electoral Area, I express my readiness to assist the victims in any way I can and I also appeal to non-governmental organisations and well-meaning individuals to extend a helping hand to the victims,” he added.

A victim thanked God for saving his life and that of his family and the other victims.

According to him, although he has lost many valuable items, he took solace in the fact that his life and that of his family were spared.

“What happened in Turkey is still fresh in my mind. Many lives and properties have been lost and if I and my family have escaped from this rainstorm, I give glory to God,” he added.
