Rashid Bawa Meets Buhari

Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Rashid Bawa yesterday presented his letters of credence to the President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari.

At the short ceremony held at the State House in Abuja, Rashid Bawa was welcomed by the Chief of Protocol at the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama.

Mr Onyeama introduced Alhaji Rashid Bawa to President Muhammadu Buhari, who accepted his Letters of Credence.

After the presentation, President Buhari held discussions with the High Commissioner and touched on the existing cordial relations between the two countries that date back to independence from British colonial rule.

They also discussed the ongoing crisis in Togo, which President Buhari said was of concern not only to Ghana and Nigeria, but the sub-region as a whole.

Later Rashid Bawa, on behalf of President Akufo-Addo and the government and people of Ghana, extended an invitation to the Nigeria leader to be the guest of honour at the upcoming 61st Independence celebration in Ghana, which President Buhari accepted in good faith.

The High Commissioner also extended condolences to President Buhari on the recent death of his two relatives.

He was accompanied by officials of the Ghana High Commission in Abuja, including the Defence Advisor, Commodore Mark Yawson, Hussaini H. Coomassie, Peace, Social Justice & Humanitarian Ambassador; Ahmed Tijani Abubakari, Minister-Counsellor and WO1 Peace Alepoore Awinbila -Finance Attache.

Rashid Bawa held a reception at the Ghana High Commission in Abuja for staff, members of the Diplomatic corps, Ghanaian professionals, among others.
