Rawlings Death A Big Blow To NDC

The late Jerry John Rawlings

It is turning out that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, and members from his camp started the process of a final total take-over of the party from the founder, the late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.

The process started at the Miklin Hotel in Kumasi but before it could be concluded with a next meeting, the founder who was their main target, died suddenly.

The push became necessary after Mr. Mahama reportedly commissioned a report into the future of the NDC, but it turned out that the report was not favourable to him as he expected.

Other reports commissioned by the NDC as a party also pointed to a gloomy future for the party and had also ruled out the NDC coming back to power in its current state.

Mr. Mahama’s camp therefore has decided to use the influential NDC gurus to prepare for the final take-over of the party so that there will not be impediments in the way of the former President when he comes again to contest for the 2024 presidential election.

They planned the meeting for the Southern Sector on Monday, November 9, 2020 and set Saturday, November 14, 2020 for the Northern Sector.

They were able to hold a successful Southern Sector meeting at Miklin Hotel in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region but when they were preparing for the Northern sector, the founder died suddenly on Thursday, November 12 – two days before the meeting.

The invitation letter had reportedly been written by Callistus Mahama, Ph.D, an aide of the former President and addressed to the NDC General Secretary.

“I bring you greetings from the Leader and Flag Bearer of the Great NDC Party. In preparation for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7, H.E John Mahama, requests your good office to convey a meeting of all parliamentary candidates and constituency chairmen as per the following arrangements: Southern Sector: Monday, November 9; Northern Sector: Saturday, November 14,” the letter said.

“The purpose of the meeting is to discuss pertinent issues arising from commissioned reports. Please remember to invite all regional chairmen as above. Best wishes from H.E John Mahama,” it added.

The letter was also copied to the national chairman and the campaign manager.
