Rockson Bukari

A former Upper East Regional Minister and Minister at the Office of the President, Rockson Ayine Bukari, has joined the list of appointees complaining about how the Upper East Region rejected development in the just ended presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to him, if any party deserved the endorsement of the Upper East Region, it should be the New Patriotic Party, considering how President Akufo-Addo had deliberately committed his government to improve on the livelihood of the people and also extend development projects to all corners of the region.

In an interview, the former regional minister indicated that he is very sad and he had been wondering what the region really wants from politics.

“I am sad because the people of the Upper East decided to reject the NPP,” he said in a low tone.

In 2016 when the government had not rolled out the free Senior High School and other social interventions, the New Patriotic Party had three parliamentary seats, and so the likes of Mr. Bukari and the entire NPP in the Upper East Region, looked forward to an increase in the number of parliamentary seats in the region, due to what party members describe as widespread development in the region.

“In 2016 we had three seats and in the just ended election, NPP won only one out of 15 parliamentary seats. There is no constituency that did not see any development. Aside the constituency ambulances, there were state of the art warehouses, small dams, improvement of existing school structures and addition of new ones. There are a lot that indicated that this government had the Upper East Region at heart,” Rockson Ayine Bukari said.

Rockson Bukari will be remembered for being a firm and strict regional minister and will also be remembered for being heard on a leaked tape that suggested that the former minister was trying to kill a story.

The leaked tape saga led to his resignation from the Office of the President, where he had been assigned after he left the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council.

Contrary to claims that Rockson Bukari was forced to resign, the former Akufo-Addo appointee said he resigned by himself and was not forced.

“I decided to resign to give President Akufo-Addo the peace of mind to work. I did so on my own volition. Nobody forced me to resign. Nobody can force me to resign. I resigned on principle,” he stated.
