The MP on the Polo road area where work has began in earnest
The much-touted rehabilitation of the bad Ayawaso Central roads in Accra commenced this week in earnest with earthmoving equipment on site around the Plant Pool area of the electoral area.
The rehabilitation work was preceded earlier by an announcement in key parts of the constituency to owners of broken down vehicles to remove them.
The Deputy Interior Minister who doubles as the MP for the Constituency, Henry Quartey, is said to have lobbied for the rehabilitation to give the roads a new lease of life.
The constituency houses some of the most terrible roads in the city, a situation which gave the MP sleepless nights. His appearance on site as the equipment commenced work around the Polo Park area was a moment of joy for him. The excitement was visible on his face as he encouraged the contractor to expedite the rehabilitation which all things being equal shall be asphalted.
Some of the worst parts of the road network in the constituency which have been earmarked for rehabilitation include the Dr. Koranteng area, Living God Temple, Plant Pool, Kaneshie Station and the Railway line area. Owners of broken down vehicles in these areas have all been asked to remove same as work has commenced.
According to Abdul Rasheed Sambo, aide to the MP, ‘my boss is determined to follow up on this project because it is dear to his heart.’
Earlier the MP had commissioned a number of streetlights in the Kokomlemle area and has promised to do more to make life comfortable for residents.
The last raining season aggravated the already bad state of the roads.
At the height of the raining season the MP and some officials from the Roads Ministry took a trip in the constituency to see for themselves the state of the roads. The announcement which followed about the rehabilitation is what is being witnessed now.
The MP during the rounds in the constituency had announced that there is to be constructed a new road in the part of the constituency which leads to the Ebony Hotel, a 5.2km stretch.
‘In all 27 roads would be asphalted in the constituency now that the necessary paperwork has been completed’ he said at the time.
Residents, DAILY GUIDE has learnt are excited and grateful to the MP that he has made good his promise of ensuring that the constituency’s bad roads are rehabilitated.
