Reject Mahama – Blay

Freddie W. Blay

National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie W. Blay, has called on the electorate to vote against ex-President John Mahama and his National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the impending December 7 polls, because he said they would mess up the economy once again if they were given the chance.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo deserves another four-year mandate to consolidate the gains made since 2017 by “completely transforming Ghana’s economy for the better.”

In a statement ahead of the election next Monday, Mr. Blay said the “President’s hands-on experience and lessons learnt” delivering on policies such as Planting for Food and Jobs, One-District-One Factory, One-Village-One Dam, Free SHS, NABCO, Covid Alleviation Programme and the Community Mining Programme represented a huge advantage for Ghana’s sustainable development.

“Under the bold leadership of His Excellency the President, great successes have been chalked up in Ghana’s socioeconomic development over the last 47 months,” he said.

“The Ghanaian economy has seen great expansion and growth in GDP over the period. The Akufo-Addo-led government has taken courageous steps to sanitize and restore confidence to the country’s financial sector, stabilize the cedi and exchange rates, digitize and formalize the economy, fights corruption and crime, and continues to provide numerous social interventions amidst COVID-19.”

Mr. Blay said the management of the economy and implementation of the many policy initiatives, in all objectivity, had made the NPP government “the most efficient, consistent and competent team to manage and grow this ‘enterprise called Ghana’ for another four years.”

He stated that “it would require more than a rusty and unsafe pair of hands,” to handle the situation.

He said “it goes beyond the rhetoric of a perceived and so-called ‘rescue mission’ for SADA’s trapped guinea fowls in Burkina Faso.”

“The noisy propaganda of the opposition NDC has become that nuisance mosquito buzz around the ears of Ghanaians to distract all well-meaning citizens from the task of nation building,” adding that ex-President Mahama is struggling to “define a clear and simple message for their campaign.”

“They are largely in the realm of speculations, with Mr. Mahama indulging in comical displays of total confusion, incoherence, inconsistencies and desperation in his campaign communication,” Mr. Blay said.

He called on the electorate to deeply reflect on the prospects of the nation under the visionary leadership of President Akufo-Addo and cast their ballots for the NPP, intimating that even though the party was optimistic about securing another mandate, it did not want any group of individuals to sit on the fence.

The NPP Chairman, reminded his counterpart in the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, “about our shared interest to demonstrate to our country men and women that democratic politics is a peaceful enterprise in which with dedication and commitment, both leading political parties can make a success of it.”
