Renal Unit Gets Support

Unita Foundation, a non-governmental charity organisation, has presented six dialysis machines to the renal unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

The foundation also presented blankets and infusion sets to the unit, all totalling over GH¢150, 000.

Presenting the equipment to the head of the unit, Cephas K. Agboada, Deputy Country Director of Unita Foundation, disclosed that Unita Foundation has over the years been supporting institutions in the area of education and health.

Citing a recent project, he stated that the foundation presented teaching and learning materials to schools in the Gomoa East District and a six-unit room block project, which is 70 percent complete, being undertaken by the foundation in the educational sector.

“At the health sector, we have also donated medical items to some CHPS compounds in that area, as well as consumables to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital,” he added.

Mr Agboada explained that the foundation got connected to the KBTH renal unit when the country director visited the hospital two years ago and saw the need of the unit.

“My director promised that when he goes back he will work to provide the unit with some dialysis machines. So we are doing this to supplement the effort of government,” he said.

Dr Vincent Boima, who received the machines on behalf of the unit, expressed his gratitude to Unita Foundation for supporting the centre with patient care through the equipment.

“We must say that we are one unit that definitely needs more machines, and so we really appreciate you coming to our aid at this time,” he said.

He was hopeful in the near future the foundation will not only donate machines but also support the staff of the unit to go for training to upgrade their knowledge in renal care.
