Renowned Ring Announcer Extols Attoh

Nathaniel Attoh

Celebrated international boxing ring announcer and actor, Michael Buffer has touched base with Nathaniel Attoh, who is largely regarded as one of his biggest protégés on the African Continent.

Buffer responded to a tweet put up by Nathaniel at the weekend after he had announced the first major boxing promotion in Ghana for this year in the midst of Covid-19 restrictions, on March 6, Ghana’s 64th Independence.

“Looking quite splendid Nathaniel! I am so glad for you, the fans and the fighters that Ghana boxing has returned again! Some of my all-time favourites come from Ghana, Ike Quartey, Joshua Clottey & the legendary Azumah Nelson,” Buffer tweeted at Nathaniel Attoh on his handle @niiattoh5.

Attoh’s exploits in the ring as an announcer has been commended by many with his smooth flow and sense of style.

He has announced most of the biggest fight nights staged in Ghana

“I am greatly humbled to be recognized by the legendary Michael Buffer, a man who has set a global standard by which many will be marked in the centre of the ring.”

Attoh’s first meeting with the globally-acclaimed ring announcer was in August 2006 at the forecourt of the Madison Square Garden in New York while he was covering the Ike Quartey v Vernon Forrest bout.

“Michael Buffer stood in the middle and announced the boxers as they took to the scales. I was in the midst of the journalists and photographers positioning themselves across to get the best shots from the weight in. I said to myself, that’s the man. Unfortunately I didn’t walk up to him to say hi,” he told myjoyonline.com.

“About two years ago he liked one of my comments paying respects to him for his contributions to the sport. I was glad but this one is bigger and means a great deal,” he revealed.

He is known more in Ghana for being a good boxing writer, covering the camps of legends like Azumah Nelson, Ike Bazooka Quartey, Joshua Clottey and Joseph Agbeko.

“I pray we collaborate in some way in the immediate future. I will be grateful. Michael Buffer inspires a lot of greatness as a host. His powerful voice and persona has brought millions of people along to follow the sport of boxing. And the decades of dedication to the sport are always worth celebrating. That surely inspires me to give off my utmost best,” he said.
