Residents Cry Over Classroom Shortage

A dilapidated structure used as classroom

Residents of Ohwimase in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region are crying over a severe shortage of classrooms at the community’s only basic school, appealing to the government and the District Assembly to urgently intervene.

The situation has compelled the residents to put up makeshift wooden structures to accommodate some of the pupils, as the few existing classrooms struggle to contain the growing school population.

According to the residents, the available classrooms were constructed through communal labour, with community members pooling their resources and efforts to provide educational facilities for their children.

However, the facilities are no longer adequate to accommodate the increasing number of pupils, forcing the community to resort to wooden structures to provide additional space for teaching and learning.

The residents have expressed concern about the situation and called on the relevant authorities to provide additional classroom blocks to ensure that pupils have access to a conducive learning environment.

Mr. Akwasi, Assistant Secretary of the Unit Committee for the Gyimakyi Anwiaso Electoral Area, has also appealed to the Bosome Freho District Assembly to come to the aid of the community.

He urged the Assembly to take urgent steps to address the classroom shortage and provide the school with the necessary infrastructure to support effective teaching and learning.

The residents are hopeful that the government and the District Assembly will respond to their appeal to prevent the situation from further undermining the education of children in the community.
