Rev. Kusi Boateng Appeals Ruling On Defamation Case Against Ablakwa

Reverend Victor Kusi Boateng

Reverend Victor Kusi Boateng, the Founder and General Overseer of Power Chapel Worldwide, has appealed the ruling in favour of Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a defamation suit.

The suit was filed by Rev. Kusi Boateng to restrain Ablakwa from discussing him in relation to the National Cathedral issue.

On Thursday, July 13, 2023, the Human Rights Court dismissed an application filed by Rev. Kusi Boateng.
The preacher’s lawyers also filed contempt charges against Ablakwa after a video surfaced showing the MP refusing to be served with court documents and kicking them with his foot.

The defamation suit was brought forward by Rev. Kusi Boateng, alleging that Ablakwa made publications suggesting that he is engaged in a conflict of interest and operates under another name, Kwabena Adu Gyamfi.

This recent ruling by the Human Rights Court comes after the Accra High Court dismissed the charges against Ablakwa in May 2023.

The dismissal was based on the argument that Rev. Kusi Boateng’s lacked capacity and locus standi. As a result, the court awarded an amount of GH¢10,000.00 against Rev. Kusi Boateng.

Interestingly, this is the second time Ablakwa has been awarded damages in relation to legal disputes.
