Adian Mahmoud
The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of a notorious armed robber, Adian Mahmoud, 25, alias Okra.
His arrest and successful prosecution follow intensive intelligence-led operations carried out by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
A statement signed by ASP Michael Toya, Public Affairs Directorate, Upper West, indicated that the convict was apprehended on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at his hideout in Sandemuni, a suburb of the Wa Municipal, and that he had been on the police wanted list for series of robberies in the Upper West Region.
According to ASP Toya, on Monday, June 2, 2025, he was arraigned before the Wa Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Jonathan Avoogo, and pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit crime, to wit robbery and robbery, and was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment in hard labour.
He disclosed that the convict’s two accomplices, Abdulai Ibrahim alias Baba, and Abdulai Kipo, pleaded not guilty, and have been remanded into prison and police custody respectively, for the continuation of the trial in the same court.
He further stated that the removal of Okra from the streets brings significant relief to residents, who can now feel more secure in their communities.
“The Command remains resolute in its efforts to track down and bring to justice all individuals who pose a threat to peace and security in the region,” he concluded.
