Robbers Attack Gold Dealer, Kill One

One person was confirmed dead while others sustained some injuries when some armed robbers attempted to rob a gold-buying agent at James Town, near Dompim in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality in the Western Region.

It was gathered that the main victim, identified only as Antobam, was pronounced dead when he was rushed to the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital on Friday night.

The unfortunate incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Having stormed the town, the alleged armed robbers numbering about seven visited the shop of the gold-buying agent and pretended they were selling gold.

As the negotiation was ongoing, some of the robbers pulled out their guns and ordered all those in the shop to lie down while others in a nearby house were asked to do same.

Antobam, a rubber farmer in his late forties, who was caught up in the melee, reportedly wanted to escape but was shot by one of the robbers who later made away with some gold and undisclosed amount of money.

The robbers took to their heels when they realized that some residents were rushing to the scene after hearing the gunshot.

The robbers, who hid themselves in the bush around the area for some time, kept on firing their guns to scare the residents.

Some of the people took Antobam and rushed him to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The case was later reported to personnel of Nsuaem Divisional Police Command who visited the scene and had started investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, no arrest has so far been made.
