A purported Chinese illegal miner, Lhun Mann, has been shot dead by armed robbers at Wassa Aborokyire Krobo in the Wassa Amenfi East District of the Western Region.
According to reports, the deceased was among three other Chinese nationals who were in a room prior to the shooting.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that the armed robbers, numbering about four, shot and killed Lhun Mann, who was first to step out of the room.
Besides, they robbed the three other Chinese nationals of a sum of GH¢45,000, mobile phones and other belongings.
According to the police, preliminary investigations showed that the Chinese were all set to begin their alleged illegal mining operations in the remote community when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Speaking to journalists, the Wassa Akropong Police Commander, Supt. Bright Boafo Kwabena, indicated that investigations into the unfortunate incident had commenced.
According to the police commander, the Chinese saw about four armed men approaching their accommodation so the deceased decided to meet them to enquire about their mission but the four men allegedly gunned down the Chinese.
The robbers then entered the rooms of the Chinese nationals and ransacked the place and according to the other three surviving Chinese, the armed men made away with GH¢45,000 and mobile phones.
“We went to the village which is about 2 or 3 hours journey from Wassa Akropong and we picked the body to the Wassa Akropong Morgue.
“From the little investigations we made, the Chinese were about to start mining because they were not doing any other work there.
“We could realise that the Chinese had secured the site and they had gathered resources to do the illegal mining in the typical village,” the police commander disclosed.
The Wassa Amenfi East area is noted for illegal mining particularly involving a lot of Chinese nationals.
Recently, three Chinese and five Ghanaians were arrested by the anti-galamsey task force, Operation Vanguard, and were handed over to the police.
