Roverman Celebrates JJ Rawlings @70

Uncle Ebo Whyte in a chat with Jerry John Rawlings

Roverman Productions on Thursday held a special exclusive viewing of its latest play titled ‘Damaged Goods’ in celebration of the 70th birthday of ex-President Jerry John Rawlings.

The event in honour of the former president had other dignitaries attending, including members of the diplomatic corps, National Democratic Congress, leaders in the entertainment industry and friends and family of Mr Rawlings.

The drama which beautifully narrated a story about a married couple, the Arkursts, who agree to participate in a live TV interview about their marriage with the hope that they can set an example for other marriages, got everyone interested as the layers covering their seemingly perfect marriage were peeled on live TV, and they come to the realisation that they’ve been living a lie for the past seventeen years.

The auditorium was filled with ecstasy as the production did not fail on its promise of proving quality family time with many lessons to be learnt.

The cast also made it special for the former president, as they interjected here and there with a few memorable phrases of the former president like ‘babies with sharp teeth’.

James Ebo Whyte, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Roverman Productions, in a message praised the former president for his resolve to salvage the country, even at the peril of his life.

“On the 70th birthday of this man the nation remembers the man who risked his life to do something about the decay that was drowning the ordinary people of Ghana,” he said.

Jerry John Rawlings was born on June 22, 1947. He was educated at Ghana’s prestigious Achimota School, after which he enlisted in the Ghana Air Force. He was awarded the coveted ‘Speed Bird’ trophy for excelling in flight and airmanship. He was the head of state from 1981 to 2000, and for a brief period between June 4 and September 24, 1979.

Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings is admired on the continent of Africa and internationally for his charisma, sincerity, drive, patriotism, and participatory leadership approach.

In October 2010, the African Union (AU) appointed him as the AU representative in Somalia. His effort contributed to the birth of a new parliament and the election of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud in 2012.
