Sachet Water Truck Kills 1, Injures 21 At Adeiso

The mangled truck

At least one person was killed and more than 21 others injured after a Kia truck carrying bags of sachet water crashed into three cars at Adeiso in the West Akyem District of the Eastern Region.

The deceased was identified as a female shop attendant and a pregnant woman was said to be among the injured people who were initially taken to the Adeiso Health Center and some later referred to the Nsawam Government Hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred around 4:00 pm on Tuesday, as the truck’s driver reportedly lost control and rammed the vehicles after an alleged brake failure, while descending a hill.

Eyewitnesses said the crash happened some few metres away from the Adeiso Police Station.

The truck reportedly first slammed the back of one of the parked cars before veering off the road to hit the shop where the lady was selling.

“About 21 victims have been rushed here. We are referring three, including a pregnant woman to the Nsawam Hospital because two have had complicated fractures. We are managing the rest of the cases here,” the Principal Physician Assistant at Adeiso Health Center, Kudji Wissih, told the media.

A bystander recounted that he saw the Kia truck with registered GW 1364-12 hitting the gate of a Sprinter bus at the exit of the lorry station, and then moved forward and crashed another vehicle at Bawdjiase Junction and went on to crash others.

According to him, some okada riders, who had parked on the roadside, were caught up in the dangerous event.
