An aspiring Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Northern Region, Adam Mohammed Samba, has congratulated President Akufo-Addo on winning the 2017 AU Gender Champion award in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) on Monday named President Akufo-Addo as the “AU Gender Champion” for 2017.
The President was given the award at the opening ceremony of the 29th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa.
The President of Guinea, Prof. Alpha Condé, who is also the Chairperson of the African Union, explained that the decision by UNECA to confer the award on President Akufo-Addo was “in recognition of your efforts in gender equality at continental level.”
Prior to the receipt of this award, the President had, earlier this year, been appointed as Chairperson of the AU’s Committee on Gender and Development by the AU Chairperson, President Alpha Condé.
In a press statement to congratulate the President, Mr. Samba said the AU award demonstrate efforts made by President Akufo-Addo to bring equitable development to the people of Ghana.
He stated that all the pro-poor policies and programmes by the Nana-Addo administration do not discriminate against any group, adding that “even appointing officials for various positions in his government has so much parity.”
The Northern Regional NPP Chairmanship hopeful, popularly known as Chairman Samba, said the coveted AU award would further encourage and enhance President Akufo-Addo’s programmes in the area of human resource development and equitable development for all Ghanaians.
Chairman Samba, who is also the current chairman of the Council of Patrons of the NPP in the Northern Region, therefore asked for God’s blessings and protection on President Akufo-Addo.
