Sammy Crabbe In Limbo -Suspension Not Lifted

SAMMY CRABBE, a one-time Second Vice Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has once again joined the list of individuals who have picked up forms to contest the position of the party’s national chairmanship.

The decision does not appear to be well-thought out as it is likely he will not be allowed to contest since his suspension has not been reversed by the party.

This is the second time Mr. Crabbe has picked up forms to contest the position in the party after he was suspended by the party for flouting its rules and regulations.

Mr. Crabbe was suspended in 2015 by the National Executive Committee of the NPP, during the build up to the 2016 General Elections alongside then Chairman, Paul Afoko, for, among other things, making utterances that were injurious to the chances of the then presidential candidate of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Although the suspension was not lifted, Mr. Crabbe picked up forms to contest the position of the party’s national chairman in 2018 but was disallowed due to the suspension.

He is expected to face the vetting committee to determine his fate, and that is where many have expressed fears that the issue of his suspension may come up.

A total of 50 people at the weekend picked forms to contest in the impending national elections by the close of nomination last Sunday.

The forms were picked for and on behalf of various aspirants gunning for positions such as National Chairman, National Vice Chairman, General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Youth Organiser, and National Nasara Coordinator.

In all, seven people picked nominations to run for the National Chairperson position, while 10 people picked forms for the National Vice Chairperson positions. Six people also picked forms to run for the General Secretary position.

Applicants for the National Chairperson are Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, Stephen Ayensu Ntim, Stephen Kwabena Boateng, Sammy Crabbe, Akwasi Osei Adjei, Joseph Ayikoi Otoo and George Kwabena Abankwah-Yeboah.

The party, in a statement, said the National Officers’ Elections shall be conducted in accordance with the opening and closing of nominations between June 8 and 12, 2022, filing of nomination papers between June 13 and 15, 2022, vetting of aspirants between June 17 and 20, 2022, among others.
