Savannah Region: NPP Clears 21 Aspirants For Regional Elections

The Election Committee in the Savannah Region of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been cleared all 21 aspirants contesting for various positions in the forthcoming regional executive elections on Friday, May 27, 2022.

Some 173 delegates from seven constituencies in the Region are expected to cast their ballots in the election of the regional officers at Damango.

However, the incumbent first Vice Chairman, Dr. Abudu Amadu Musah, is the only aspirant going unopposed.

According to a statement released by the Elections Committee of the party in the Region, the aspirants have been implored to be circumspect in their campaigns and avoid the use of derogatory words since the contest is an internal one.

It said “We wish to admonish the aspirants to be decorous in their campaigns and see this as an inhouse contest.”

The incumbent chairman, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana, a businessman, is being challenged by one Alhaji Abass Azumah for the chairmanship position.

The incumbent chairman Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana, also called ‘Prof Kalamonia’, believes he is the right man to win more parliamentary seats for the party in the 2024 elections.

“I led the party to increase our seats from one in 2016 to three in 2020 and also moved our presidential votes from 50,000 to 81,000 so my records speak for itself.

“I am a unifier and a youth person interested in the development of the human resource of our region and my reelection by the delegates will give the youth more opportunities,” he added.

Apart from the position of Women’s Organizer, which is reserved for women, only one woman is contesting a different position in the Region.

Hajia Zulfawu Amadu, the incumbent Second Vice Chairman, is being contested by one Johnson Kwame Gyinde.

The elections will take place at the office premises of the MP for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor.
