Senior Minister Yaw Osafo-Maafo has rallied Ghanaians to always uphold the spirit of patriotism and love for the country.

He stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has good plans to develop the country but it would take dedicated and committed citizenry to support the state to deliver on its mandate.

The Senior Minister was speaking as a special guest of honour at this year’s Kundum Festival of the chiefs and people of Axim in the Western Region. It was under the theme: “Promoting Our Traditional Values Through Tourism, Arts and Culture.”

The Kundum Festival was also used to raise funds for the furnishing of the Surgical Department of the Axim Hospital.

The Senior Minister mentioned that the Landing Beach, Sea Defence and other projects being undertaken by the government in the area were some of the plans by government to better the lot of the people and called on them to rally behind the NPP for victory in 2020.

Ernest Kofi Osafo, the Managing Director of Takoradi International Company (TICO), who chaired the programme, stressed the need for the country to promote its indigenous values.

“We should also promote our arts and culture which remind us of where the country has come from and we need to uphold our good values to advance the country’s development agenda,” he said.

He added that development and advancement was deeply rooted in values, heritage and culture, adding “these are treasures we cannot do away with in our quest to develop”.

He noted that as industry players, TICO would continue to contribute its quota to societal growth and pledged his company’s commitment to support the community to complete the Axim Hospital project.

He called for reinforcement of positive cultural values that promoted integrity as against dishonesty, good as against bad, love as against hatred, hard work, dedication to duty and love for all.

Awulae Attibrukusu III, Omanhene of Lower Axim Traditional Area, noted that revisiting the good virtues exhibited by those who struggled to bring Ghana to its current state were critical to  avert the growing incidence of crime, dishonesty, corruption and other moral ills that were gaining ground in the society.

He, therefore, called on his subjects to distinguish themselves through good virtues and rally behind the leadership to advance development of the area and the nation as a whole.
