Sham Rescue Mission

John Mahama

The claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it is on a rescue mission to provide a better governance and economic stewardship to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is part of its disillusioned rhetoric.

That the NDC has set out to correct the mess created by the Akufo-Addo government is just an attempt at political point scoring, but not because the Umbrella Family has any reasoned strategies to achieve the promises being made by John Mahama, who regularly contradicts himself that he would not make pledges to the people because of the country’s economic challenges.

Then on his next leg of the campaign, he would promise building bridges over non-existent rivers and add that if the electorate do him the honour again he would fulfil all his promises. The NDC has perfected the act of lying and has made misinformation the cornerstone of Election 2024 campaign.

That is why everyday they are on the drawing board to find new lies about the NPP instead of telling Ghanaians that in the unlikely event that the NDC is voted into power again its leader and the party would implement these policy interventions.

So far, the NDC has put forward the 24-hour economy that it finds difficult to explain because John Mahama who mooted it is as confused as the ordinary Ghanaian.

The NDC is confused because even in the midst of the challenges, President Akufo-Addo’s government has kept the economy running with the construction of two big and modern sports facilities to host the African Games, which John Mahama advocated Ghana should not host because of economic difficulties.

There are too many forces that have teamed up to destabilise the NPP agenda of ‘breaking the eight’.

That is why the NDC and its allies in the media, civil society and academia have teamed up to undermine the achievements of the NPP.

The NDC is only interested in the Guggisberg theory of infrastructural development that even military junta executed. We are interested in interventions that impact the people’s personal lives such as free SHS, National ID cards, National Health Insurance, Capitation Grant, School Feeding Programme and the digital economy.

Today, it does not matter one’s geographical location or time of the day, that person can transact any business thanks to mobile money interoperability. The NPP and its communication team have a Herculean task to project the NPP’s legacy and defeat the propaganda of the NDC and its allies.

Last week’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) was watched by millions of Ghanaians and they saw the attempt by the NDC Minority to humiliate President Akufo-Addo with its botched boycott.

The lies and the agenda to make fake news the basis for the 2024 electioneering is crumbling even before the campaign gears up. Disappointment awaits the Goebbelsian liars in December.
