The suspects
The Western Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with a shooting that killed one person at a mining site in Gwira Ampansie, Nema East District.
The deceased, 45-year-old Angu Mensah, Abusuapanyi of Gwira Ampansie, was shot at the site during a misunderstanding.
The six suspects in custody are Hamza Abubakar, 36; Hamidu Seidu, 42; Francis Biewose, 26; Bai Yaozheng, 36; Liu Gang, 43; and Wen Xien Wen, 45. Three are Ghanaian nationals and three are Chinese nationals.
According to a statement issued by Supt. Olivia Et Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, police in Axim received a distress call about the shooting at about 13:20 hours on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
Investigations revealed that at about 11:45 hours, a misunderstanding broke out between the deceased and others at the site. During the altercation, a suspect identified as Alfred Sadick, alias “Strongman,” allegedly shot Mensah in the chest.
The six suspects are assisting police with investigations. Efforts are underway to arrest Alfred Sadick, who remains at large.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Axim Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
