The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the arrest of six Ghanaians suspected to be involved in organised cybercrime activities in Zambia.
In a statement, the ministry said the six Ghanaians were among 79 people arrested, including 10 Zambians and 63 other foreign nationals, in Lusaka on August 23, 2026 during a joint operation targeting a facility suspected to be involved in organised cybercrime activities in Zambia.
It said some of the Ghanaians had allegedly been lured to Zambia through fraudulent employment opportunities before being forced into online scam activities.
“Some individuals had been recruited through purported legitimate employment opportunities, including online data-entry positions, but were subsequently forced into online scam activities after their passports were confiscated by their employers,” the statement disclosed.
It highlighted the use of fraudulent job opportunities by human trafficking syndicates to lure unsuspecting job seekers into illicit activities.
The Ministry has advised Ghanaians travelling or seeking employment in Zambia to exercise extreme caution and thoroughly verify the authenticity of employment offers, recruitment agencies and prospective employers before travelling.
It further urged Ghanaians living in Zambia to remain vigilant when responding to online employment opportunities and maintain regular contact with the Ghana High Commission in Lusaka for consular assistance when necessary.
The Ministry said the advisory was part of the government’s efforts to safeguard the welfare and interests of Ghanaians travelling or residing abroad.
The operation was conducted by the Zambia Police Service, the Drug Enforcement Commission and the Department of Immigration.
