Slain NDC Vigilante’s Family Quits

Abdul Wasihu Iddrisu

Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has lost a number of staunch supporters in the Asawase Constituency, which is the party’s stronghold in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.

Family members of Abdul Wasihu Iddrisu, a member of the Ashanti Regional NDC Taskforce, who was recently shot and killed by a member of another NDC vigilante group called the Hawks, have resigned en bloc from the party.

A family member known only as Mother, who spoke on behalf of the aggrieved family on Nhyira FM, a Kumasi-based radio station, said the entire family has remained loyal to the NDC for many years but has always become victim of the party.

“The sad aspect of the issue is that the NDC and their leadership have turned their back on us after we have lost Wasihu, who was young with a bright future,” she stated.

“We have learnt vital lessons from how the NDC neglected us after the death of Wasihu and so we have decided to leave the party for good.

“The NDC is not a party to die for and so we have decided to leave the party and nothing would influence us to rescind our decision,” Mother said angrily.

“The family has realized that the NDC is not a political party, which is worth dying for, hence our decision to call it quits once-and-for-all.”

She disclosed that Wasihu was the second person in the family that had died in recent times through their involvement with the NDC.

According to her, Wasihu’s mother collapsed and died during a presidential campaign of former President John Dramani Mahama at the Central Mosque in Kumasi last year.

2020 Campaign

Mother said family members of Wasihu would campaign vigorously against the NDC during the 2020 general election.

According to her, her family would make sure that the NDC loses many votes in the Asawase Constituency, saying “The NDC should forget about Asawase in 2020 because we will campaign against them and that would affect their general performance in the polls.

“They can’t take our family for a ride; we shall make sure that the NDC suffers during the upcoming 2020 national elections,” she charged.
