Slain Otumfuo’s Chief Laid To rest

The late Oheneba Kwadwo Afoduor

THE LATE Otumfuo’s Asamponghene, Oheneba Kwadwo Afoduor, has been buried according to Ashanti customs and traditions.

He was buried at the Royal Mausoleum at Achiase, his hometown, during a private service on Monday night.

Prior to the burial, he lay in state for two days for mourners to pay their last respects to him starting from Sunday.

Scores of mourners trooped to the Asamponghene’s palace at Krofrom in Kumasi to pay their last respects to the late chief. They included traditional leaders in Asanteman, the clergy, businessmen, family members, friends and people from all walks of life.

Some of the mourners, especially people that were very close to the deceased chief, openly shed tears for him.

On the night of the second day (Monday), his body was conveyed to Achiase for a private burial service.

The Asamponghene was allegedly murdered by some people, who dumped his body in a car at Ebuom on the outskirts of Ejura few months ago.

After investigations, the police became convinced that his friend, Sadat Mohammed, aka Alhaji, had a hand in the chief’s death.

With support from Interpol in Burkina Faso, Sadat was nabbed from his hideout in Ouagadougou and he is currently standing trial.
