ADDITIONAL MILITARY and policemen have been quickly dispatched to Asante Akyem Agogo in the Ashanti Region, to support their colleagues in the Operation Cow Leg duties, which is to prevent Fulani herdsmen from causing trouble with their cattle.
The Ashanti Regional Police PRO, ASP Juliana Obeng, said “We have dispatched military and policemen to support the activities of the Operation Cow Leg personnel at Asante Akyem Agogo, starting from Tuesday”.
This directive by the police and military hierarchy is in direct response to the unexpected shooting of three military men and one policeman, allegedly, by scores of runaway Fulani herdsmen.
The Operation Cow Leg personnel, which include soldiers and policemen, were embarking on their normal operations in the bush on Monday afternoon at Serebuoso when a group of Fulani herdsmen attacked them.
Speaking on Nhyira FM in Kumasi, ASP Juliana Obeng stated that all the four victims during Monday’s gun attack “are alive and they are receiving treatment at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital”.
She said no arrest had been made so far, in connection with the shooting, stating that police had also sent several plain-clothed personnel, who are experts in investigations, to help arrest the culprits to face the law.
ASP Juliana Obeng said the police would particularly investigate to find out whether the affected personnel were hit by stray bullets or the attackers intentionally shot at them in the bush.
The Police PRO noted that the security agencies in the region are treating the shooting incident with the seriousness it deserves, indicating that REGSEC would even meet on Tuesday and harness a strategy to deal with the issue.
According to her, the joint military/police team is firmly in control of the security situation at Asante Akyem Agogo and the near communities, adding that nobody can breach the law in the area and escape.
