Somanya Seat Is My Target – NPP Aspirant

Dr Gabriel Odoh Apotey

Dr Gabriel Odoh Apotey, the Financial Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Yilo–Krobo Constituency, says his main agenda for contesting for the chairmanship post is to help the party win the parliamentary seat in 2020.

The NPP has never won the seat since 1992 but Dr Odoh Apotey says he has the magic wand to capture it from the NDC this time around.

According to him, “With total commitment, the party would give NDC keen competition in the near future and ‘revolution’ is going to be led by me.”

He denied allegations by some party members that he had hijacked the party’s forms.

Dr. Odoh Apotey told DAILY GUIDE “that I want to lead the constituency because the incumbent chairman Richard Twum–Barima is not seeking re-election.”

He said that the Yilo-Krobo NPP is very serious about capturing the seat in order to get its share of the developmental projects.

Dr Odoh Apoty, who served as Zonal Organiser for ‘Friends of Nana Addo’ in past elections, said “the Yilo-Krobo constituency is also part of the three Krobo constituencies in Dangme land. The political trend in the Krobo land is very interesting. The opposition National Democratic Congress has won all the previous elections in the area.”

“One notable finding is that unlike the Dangme constituencies in the Greater Accra Region, the Krobo constituencies appeal more to the NDC partly because it is located in the Eastern Region,” he added.

“To win an election in the stronghold of a particular party, you must also look at the previous gaps, and the gap that exists between the NDC and NPP is huge and not favorable to the NPP, but we shall work hard to win in 2020.”
