SONA 2019: Nana Calls For Dialogue To End Vigilantism

President Akufo-Addo

PRESIDENT NANA Akufo-Addo has called on the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress to hold a dialogue on how to end the political vigilantism in the country.

He made the call as he delivered his third State of The Nation Address on Thursday on the floor of Parliament.

He expressed the hope that the meeting would be convened next week, with the assistance of the Police and Military.

However, he warned that if voluntary arrangement failed to bring an end to the vigilantism menace, he would pass a legislation to deal with issue that has become a source of national concern.

According to him, the time had come to bring an end to political violence in Ghana.

“We must not take our peace and security for granted, not for a moment,” he warned.

Commenting on the recent shooting incident during the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election, he recounted that previous by-elections such as those held in Akwatia, Amenfi West, Chereponi, among others, had been characterized by violence with scars on the minds of people.

He said the only way to bring an end to the violence was through a Commission of Inquiry, expressing the hope that the Justice Emile Short Commission would help the country in helping political violence.
