SP Clears Atta Akyea Over Malfeasance

Samuel Atta Akyea

Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, has been cleared of allegation of financial malfeasance by the Special Prosecutor (SP), Kissi Agyebeng.

The SP last month said his office, in July 2022, terminated investigation into the complaint filed by one Daniel Kwasi Amponiy against the MP for lack of evidence.

“The complainant admitted that he filed the complaint without any basis and that he was paid to fabricate the content of the complaint,” the SP stated in a report issued on August 1, 2022.

The report indicated that the complainant, Daniel Kwasi Amponiy, and his accomplices are under investigation for filing “the complaint with the singular aim of tarnishing the reputation of the respondent.”

Petition

On December 16, 2021, Amponiy petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to probe the former Minister of Works and Housing over claims that Mr. Atta Akyea signed some contracts during his tenure as minister.

He also claimed that the former minister signed separate contracts totalling $1 billion in 2018 and 2019, and that constituted financial malfeasance, asserting that documents available to him showed that the MP allegedly violated the legislative functions of Parliament as stipulated in Article 93(2) of the Constitution by signing the supposed contracts.

Confession

Daniel Kwasi Amponiy is said to have confessed that he was promised GH¢30,000 to destroy the MP.

DAILY GUIDE learned that the complainant-turned-accused and his accomplices are now being investigated also for forgery of documents in the name of their hatched job.
