Speaker Suspends Sitting

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin was forced to suspend sitting on Friday, November 26, 2021 following a no show from members of the Majority.

The NPP MPs were said to be locked up in a crunch meeting with the leadership of the caucus ahead of the vote on the 2022 budget.

At the commencement of business of the house on Friday, over 100 NDC MPs were present in the chamber with the seats of the NPP still empty.

The development prompted the First Deputy Minority Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim to draw the Speaker’s attention to the absence of the NPP MPs from the chamber.

In a bid to calm the rising tensions in the chamber, the Speaker suspended sittings but the Minority MPs vehemently protested arguing the NPP MPs must be compelled to appear and debate the budget.
