Speaker Visits Togbe Afede

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin and some Members of Parliament are at Ho in the Volta region attending a two day post budget workshop.

As part of his activities there, the Speaker paid a courtesy call on the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State and former President of the National House of Chiefs, Torgbe Afedi XIV.

Addressing a gathering of Chief’s at the Torgbe’s palace, Speaker Bagbin assured Ghanaians of his commitment to ensure that the people of Ghana are properly served by the elected members.

He said while taking his position very seriously, he also places premium on the fact that Ghana’s Legislature serves the people well.

Torgbe Afedi, welcoming the Speaker and his delegation, spoke about the economic potential of Ghana, stating that the fact that ‘we could not provide for ourselves during the COVID 19 period, in spite of our many resources show how vulnerable we are as a people’.

He spoke also about the high unemployment rate in the country and urged that something be done as soon as possible to reverse this trend.

He added that there is a need to improve amenities like educational facilities, road networks etc., urging that roads already started be completed.

He furthered pointed to the politicization of the various arms of government and called on Parliament to strengthen itself for better services to the people.

He bemoaned the high cost of borrowing and pointed out how that is affecting private business.

He called for a separation between the chairmanship and governorship of the Bank of Ghana to ensure that the appropriate checks and balances are in place.
