Special Voting Begins Nationwide

The Electoral Commission (EC) has commenced the special voting exercise in designated polling centres across the country, today December 1.

The exercise which is being organised in compliance with provisions of the Public Elections Regulations, 2016 (C.I. 94) is to allow members of key agencies who would be working on election Day the opportunity to cast their votes.

Persons who qualify to vote under the special voting exercise are members of the security services and agencies, personnel of the National Ambulance Service, accredited media persons, the National Media Commission and staff of the EC.

In all, some 109,557 Ghanaians are expected to cast their votes today.

At the Kpeshie Divisional Police Headquarters where special voters in the Krowor Constituency are voting, DGN observed that two polling centres have been set up to accommodate the number of voters.

Voters with the letters of their surname starting with A to D were designated to vote at Center A while voters who had their surnames starting with letters E to Z also voting at polling centre B all located on the premises of the police station.

As at 5:40 when the news team got to the polling centre EC officials were preparing their materials for voting to begin at the scheduled time of exactly 7 am.

Party officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were seen entering the station at 5:50 am to monitor the process.

The ballot boxes were then retrieved from the police station at 6:24 am as EC officials began checking the documents together with the party officials present.

At 7:00 am Centre A started its process of voting while Center B started at 7:02 am.

The presiding officer of Centre A, Edward Okoe, said 415 voters are to vote in Centre A and 414 in Centre B.

“As you can see we have started the exercise and everything is going on smoothly,” he said.
