Staged Kidnappings Increase In K’si

Reported cases of staged kidnappings are said to be on the increase in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

It has, therefore, become a constant worry for the police hierarchy in the region, according to ASP Godwin Ahianyo, the Ashanti Regional Police PRO.

He said apart from the kidnapping incident at Ejisu, the one involving the Canadian girls and another one involving some Indians were all genuine kidnapping cases, but the rest were staged.

“Staged kidnapping is rapidly becoming the order of the day in Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region,” he said on Nhyira FM in Kumasi, adding that “the police have received information of kidnappings which ended up being staged by the people involved.”

ASP Ahianyo said that there are repercussions for those involved and added that the police would not spare anybody found to be involved.

According to the police PRO, kidnapping is illegal, so he sternly warned that culprits would be dealt according to the law.
